Jimmy Clark, finished 25.3 seconds ahead Team Lotus teammate Graham Hill, to win the South African Grand Prix, at Kyalami Circuit, Kyalami, South Africa. (1968)

Robby Gordon, former NASCAR, CART, IndyCar, Trans-Am, IMSA, IROC and Dakar Rally driver, born in Cerritos, California, USA. (1969)

The first South African Grand Prix, to be held on the Kyalami track near Johannesburg, is won by Pedro Rodriguez, at the wheel of a Cooper-Maserati. It was the first Formula 1 win for Rodriguez, and last for Cooper. (1967)
