Art Arfons, a drag racer from Ohio, USA, sets the land-speed record, of 576.553 miles per hour at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats, driving a jet-powered machine, known as the Green Monster, which he'd built himself out of surplus parts. (1965)

Alan Kulwicki, driving a Ford Thunderbird, wins his first NASCAR Winston Cup race at Phoenix, Arizona, USA. (1988)

Al Unser Jr, finished 35.36 seconds ahead of Roberto Guerrero, to win the CART "Miami Indy Challenge 200" at Tamiami Park, Miami, Florida, USA. Canadian Jacques Villeneuve Sr finished 6th. (1986)

Bobby Labonte wins the NAPA 500 at Atlanta, Georgia, USA. His brother Terry clinches the NASCAR Winston Cup championship. (1996)

Danny Sullivan, finished 16.8 seconds ahead of Bobby Rahal, to win the CART "Beatrice Indy Challenge" at Tamiami Park, Miami, Florida, USA. Al Unser with a 4th place finish, edged son Al Unser Jr in 3rd, by one point to win the CART championship. (1985)

 Dale Armstrong, inducted in to the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 1995, died at his home in Temecula, California at the age of 73. (2014) 

November 29
Graham Hill, two time Formula One World Champion, and only driver to win the Triple Crown of Motorsport (24 Hours of Le Mans, Indianapolis 500 and Formula One World Championship) was killed when the Piper PA 23-250 Turbo-Aztec, that he was piloting on return from the Paul Ricard circuit, France, crashed in North London while attempting to land in foggy conditions at night. The crash also resulted in the deaths of team manager Ray Brimble, mechanics Tony Alcock and Terry Richards, up-and-coming driver Tony Brise and designer Andy Smallman. (1975)

Ashley Force, Top Fuel Funny Car drag racer and the daughter of 16-time NHRA Top Fuel Funny Car national champion John Force, born in Yorba Linda, California, USA. (1982)
